Because...I made a difference to that one

A couple of things to date that I have learned about foster care are...

  1. Not all agencies are created equal
  2. Not all caseworkers are created equal
  3. Not all cases are treated equal
  4. Not all children are treated equal
  5. Not all biological families are treated equal
  6. Not all foster families are treated equal
  7. Don't plan your future
  8. Don't ever assume ANYTHING
  9. Never compare one way of an agency handling a situation to anything else
  10. Never compare anything or anyone to anything or anyone else

Sometimes my stories can seem hard. I may seem crazy at times, like why would I put myself through it? I hear ALL THE TIME, I could never foster a child because I would just get too attached... Really? What you must think of me then! Some kind of monster who can't attach themselves to other humans! Well of course I get attached, more to some that's came through then others, that's true, but never did I feel like I couldn't give my all to a child because I was scared I would be the one hurt at the end. So when people say something to me like, I don't know how you do it, I would get attached and not want to give them back, I say GOOD! That's what these babies need! Someone who loves them that much. Someone who they know would do absolutely anything to make them happy, keep them safe, love them unconditionally and want to keep them around FOREVER! I hate to sound mean but remember everything you do in life doesn't have to be about you. I was blessed that the children I gave birth to have big hearts and after we explained what foster care means was on board and now 2 want to be foster parents when they are grown and established as well. Not every child wants that, for sure, its a whole family conversation and decision. If you can't foster because you cant have your heart broken then by all means PASS, you are not a good candidate anyways, but if you truly want to make a difference in a life and know that heartbreak can also come with HUGE rewards then maybe give it another thought. I'd love to answer any questions or talk with you about it! Leave a comment for me!
I want to share one of my ALL time favorite stories with you. I even decorated our "foster nursery" years ago in sea theme because of this story.
